Niagara Falls

It is my great pleasure to again welcome you to compete in the 24th Annual Penn Masters Golf Championship! This year’s tournament will now be held October 1-4, 2020 in Niagara Falls, NY.  The first ever Fall Penn Masters will be the most anticipated event in our 24-year history.  Here are the details for what promises to be the event of a lifetime!

Penn Masters headquarters will be located at the Double Tree by Hilton Niagara Falls.  Perfectly located along the Niagara River, within blocks of Niagara Falls State Park and the glorious Seneca Casino. Goat Island and the Rainbow International Bridge are less than a mile from our door. The hotel features rooms with river views and an indoor pool. Perks include their 24-hour market and a warm DoubleTree cookie at check-in.

Get your day started off right by exploring the breakfast menu at the Double Tree by Hilton, which is included in everyone’s Penn Masters discount package.  A full assortment of eggs, waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage, fruits, juices, yogurt and a full selection of big n’ crusty bagels await your morning palette!

We have secured 72 participants who will compete on the most challenging lineup of courses in Penn Masters history for both the Brownie Jug and the Ted Amidon trophies, as the championship begins upon your arrival at Diamond Hawk Golf Club on Thursday afternoon October 1st. Sharpen your game during the opening practice round with a shotgun start at 1:00 pm on this sparkling gem.

Diamond Hawk is Western New York’s premier golf course, offering country club amenities at a public course. Located minutes away from Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, Diamond Hawk was designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, who also designed Erin Hills Golf Course, site of the 2017 US Open. The course offers a challenge for golfers of all levels, with expansive rolling greens, numerous ponds, streams and hazards that make for a great test to your game.

The Penn Masters ‘Welcome Dinner’ will be held following golf at Diamond Hawks’ Outdoor Patio and Indoor banquet area.  Get ready for a great evening of sharing laughs with friends, devouring ‘Beef on Weck’ (A Buffalo Favorite) , while enjoying plenty of  beers to discuss strategy to contend in the days ahead.

The official Penn Masters Golf Championship begins on Friday October 2nd with tee times beginning at 10:30 AM at Seneca Hickory Stick.  Named to reflect the presence of rare and protected Shellbark Hickory trees on site, Seneca Hickory Stick features a picturesque layout highlighted by tranquil lakes and ponds, native plants and grasses that are surrounded by large mature trees.

The Robert Trent Jones II design weaves its way through some of the finest topography for golf in the entire region. Combining the absolute best course conditions and customer service levels in the area, Hickory Stick redefines Premium Daily Fee Golf in Western New York.

Upon completion of round #1, you will be served a plated NY Strip Steak ‘Champions Dinner’, located inside Seneca Hickory Stick’s luxury tent facility. We will also be gathering later on back at the Doubletree outdoor grassy area at 9:00 PM for a brief ceremony to honor all of our past Penn Masters champions along with doling out the days’ prizes.  We will also partake on an optional 10-minute walk to Goat Island, which overlooks the spectacularly illuminated Niagara Falls, weather permitting.

Round 2 or ‘Moving Day’ on Saturday October 3rd will be another stern test of golf, rewarding all facets of the long and short game, while demanding accuracy, patience and shot making at the Harvest Hill Golf Club, where we have a shotgun start planned for 12:00 PM.  Selected as “Buffalo’s Best Public Course’ for 2011, Harvest Hill’s magnificent Dr. Michael Hurdzan designed golf course was forged from the farmlands of old in Orchard Park, NY. He took full advantage of the existing tranquil beauty to create a compelling test of golf. This course features rolling bent grass fairways framed by natural wetlands, woodlands and waves of golden heather topped off with plenty of bunkers and lakes to aid to the flowing tiered greens.

Championship Sunday promises to separate the men from the boys, when the fields “Low 16” will tackle the Diamond Hawk Golf Club, on Sunday morning October 4th beginning at 9:30 AM from the daunting championship tees measuring 6,693 yards. Diamond Hawk is truly a spectacular place and is a worthy host of the final Penn Masters round with its 18th hole being widely regarded as the toughest finishing hole in Western NY.  Those without the heart, passion and skill will crumble during this final grueling test.
